Established in 1998 by the Stanislaus family, Guyomar’s estate vineyard, St. Peter of Alcantara, is located in the western part of Paso Robles AVA, known as the Willow Creek District. The 32-acre vineyard is planted to 16-acres of head-trained, own-rooted Zinfandel, 5-acres of Rockpile (Clone) Petite Sirah, one of the oldest Petite Sirah clone, 3-acres of Grenache and 8-acres of Syrah. The Syrah and Grenache are both head-trained, which is unusual – traditionally these varieties are trellised as they are vigorous and hard to control. By virtue of dry farming, the Stanislaus’ are able to moderate their vigor. Because of its unique growing conditions along with meticulous vineyard practices, St. Peter of Alcantara Vineyard is blessed to have never required irrigation. Richard Sauret, a grape grower since 1952 and one of Paso Robles’ most esteemed growers and vineyard managers consulted with the Stanislaus family in the planting of the vineyard. Winemaking is in the hands of veteran Paso Robles winemaker Steve Glossner who has earned a well-deserved reputation for making wines of specific character and quality. Glossner has stayed closer to a more fundamental model where balance, complexity and age-worthiness are the goals for wines made from vineyard sources possessing their own unique and individual characteristics. The Elephants symbolize power, tightly knit, consistent characteristics that are true to the wines as well.
